Hi, I’m Hannah Larter (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) offering virtual therapy to adults in Virginia and Ohio. Over the past decade, I’ve enjoyed supporting clients in a variety of settings, including non-profits, schools, and outpatient therapy practices. Across all of these roles, I’ve been proud of my commitment to building strong, trusting relationships and helping people make meaningful, lasting change.

As a trauma-informed and EMDR-trained therapist, I specialize in working with adults navigating the impact of trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. My approach is grounded in self-compassion, insight-building, and practical tools that support emotional resilience and healing. I create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can better understand yourself, shift unhelpful patterns, and move toward the life you want.

As a Social Worker, social justice matters to me. I am LGBTQ+ affirming, committed to racial justice, and am an advocate for body autonomy. I believe that therapy should include and embrace your identity and lived experiences.

In my free time, you’ll likely find me watching food-centered shows (I’m a big Top Chef and Chef’s Table fan), playing—unfortunately mediocre—pickleball, or planning my next travel adventure.

You might like working with me if you find yourself:

  • Struggling with the impact of trauma

  • Feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or worried

  • Knowing things intellectually, like you’re good enough, but not feeling like it’s true

  • Repeating patterns that aren’t aligned with your values or the life you want to live

  • Struggling to navigate relationships/attachment challenges

  • Beating yourself up over every little thing

  • Prioritizing the needs of others at the expense of your own well-being

  • Struggling with life transitions (break ups, moves, job changes, etc.)

In therapy with me, we often:

  • Use evidence-based trauma therapies, like EMDR, to reduce the distress of traumatic/painful memories

  • Explore the origins and protective functions of challenging or frustrating patterns you’d like to change

  • Update old learnings and beliefs that are no longer helpful

  • Do experiential work (include the mind and body) to align how you think with how you truly feel

  • Increase your ability to offer yourself kindness and self-compassion

  • Explore how early relationships impact your attachment patterns and current day relationships

  • Identify practical skills and exercises for you to use in your life outside of therapy to better manage difficult experiences and emotions

  • Identify your values and explore how to create a more values-aligned life
